Verloren – was methode, ofwel Cire Perdue.
Çire perdue is een techniek om metalen voorwerpen te gieten, bijvoorbeeld in brons. Çire perdue staat ook bekend als de verloren wasmethode. De gebruikte was hiervoor is doorgaans gietwas of boetseerwas. Het ontwerp beeld wordt voorzien van aan- en afvoerkanalen, daarna wordt er een hittebestendige mal omheen gemaakt, vervolgens wordt de was uit de mal gestookt in een speciale oven. wanneer alle was gesmolten is wordt er brons gegoten. Na het afwerken van het nu bronzen beeld d.m.v. slijpen, schuren e.d. kan het gepatineerd worden. Patineren kan zowel koud als warm gebeuren. Patineren is een manier om het beeld, met een flinke hete vuurvlam en chemische middelen, een kleur te geven.

Lost-wax process, also called cire-perdue,
a method of metal casting in which a molten metal is poured into a mold that has been created by means of a wax model. Once the mold is made, the wax model is melted and drained away. A hollow core can be effected by the introduction of a heat-proof core that prevents the molten metal from totally filling the mold. After filling the mold with heated bronze and cooling down,the shell is hammered or sand-blasted away, releasing the rough casting.Pits left by air bubbles in the casting and the stubs of the spruing are filed down and polished. Patina;Patina to bronze is like rust to iron and tarnish to silver, only more desirable and beautiful.Chemiccaly speaking, they are oxide layers that form when the reactive metals come into contact with anions [ such as oxygen and chloride ions, heat and other chemicals to get colour]
